Newport Beach is located in the heart of coastal Orange County California, about an hour south of Los Angeles. Balboa Island is a famous destination amongst tourists and locals for its nostalgic boardwalk style atmosphere, and Lido Island for its shops, yacht weddings, and annual boat show. However, the rest of the island communities are very exclusive and mostly gated. Newport Bay is divided by a bridge, which is too low for many sailboats and yachts to go under. North of the bridge is often referred to as Upper Newport Bay, or the Back Bay. South of the bridge is called Lower Newport Bay, or Newport Harbor. However, the Back Bay also has harbor facilities. The Dunes resort and marina is a popular section of the back bay. Located inside the dunes, you’ll find Camp James for school aged children in the summer, weddings, boat rentals, and overnight beach cottages, and RV hook ups. If you’re into surfing you have to check out the world famous wedge located down in Peninsula point. Restaurants include the Billy’s at the Beach Mai Tai’s, Roy's restaurant Hawaiian fusion located in Fashion Island, The crab cooker, and so much more. Fashion Island is located in the heart of Newport Beach with ample activities and of course prestigious department stores such as Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales, and Nordstrom.
